Promoting Safe and Healthy Foods

May 15, 2013 — CT Mirror: This week, a compromise was reached that would require college officials to come before legislators to talk about their budgets sometime before Valentines Day next year, but not necessarily before their budget is adopted. The budget hearing would also be required in 2015.

On November 2, 2010, Senator Beth Bye was elected to represent the citizens of the 5th Senate District towns of West Hartford, Bloomfield, Burlington and Farmington. Beth is co-chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee and is a member of the Appropriations, Education, and Judiciary committees.

Beth received her BA and MA in child development from the University of New Hampshire, and is widely recognized as one of the state’s leading authorities on early childhood education. Beth has been a program director at Capitol Region Education Council, The University of Saint Joseph and Trinity College. She has a strong interest in program and facility development and has had a role in the development of four model preschool programs in the Hartford region over the past 10 years serving a combined 750 children.

Beth was named “Legislator of the Year” in 2009 and 2011 by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance. She has been named one of a dozen “Environmental Champions” by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. Even before being elected to the General Assembly, Beth was recognized by The National Council of Jewish Women for their “Women Who Dare Award” in 2002. Beth was also named one of Connecticut Magazine’s “30 Young People of Influence” (30 under 40).

Beth is an active member of the West Hartford Unitarian Universalist Church. She also served as vice chair of the West Hartford Board of Education for five years. She coachedvarious youth sports over the years.

Beth lives in West Hartford with her wife, Tracey Wilson. They were the first gay couple to be married in Connecticut in 2008. They have three children in college and one gainfully employed! Beth grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut and has five sisters, one brother and 24 nieces and nephews. She and her family enjoy tennis, skiing, the beach and entertaining friends and family.
