Gomes and Bridgeport Students Celebrate Read Across America Day

BRIDGEPORT, CT—Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) visited Luis Munoz Marin School in Bridgeport on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday, to read with students in Ms. D'Auria’s 2nd grade class.
Gomes was one of many volunteers across the country who visited schools to read with students and talk with students about how reading has been important in his life.
“Reading is very important because it teaches you about the world around you,” Sen. Gomes told the students. “You can learn about people and events from different places and different times. I love reading.”
Read Across America is a nationwide initiative created by the National Education Association to encourage reading among students. National Read Across America Day is one part of this initiative, and is held on the school day closest to March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Every year, guest readers are invited into schools to read with children and promote the values of reading.
