Duff Earns 100 Percent Rating From Connecticut League of Conservation Voters

Support of 19 environmental policies earns recognition from statewide group

On this year’s annual scorecard, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) has awarded state Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) a 100 percent rating for his support and advocacy for environmental initiatives in 2009. This year, the CTLCV scorecard was based on voting records on 19 separate bills considered by the General Assembly.

Senator Duff is one of 14 members of the Senate to earn a 100 percent ranking. Some of the bills used by CTLCV in its evaluation address issues such as inland wetlands regulation and smart growth policies, the use of so-called ‘green’ cleaning materials in schools and the use of pesticides in and around daycare centers.

“More and more, the people of Connecticut are embracing environmentally friendly policies because they not only make ecological sense but also they make economic sense,” said Senator Duff. “This year, we took on a number of initiatives that will not only preserve public health but also will improve our environmental quality while, in many instances, either saving money or helping to boost our local economy. These are smart measures, and I was very proud to support them this year.”

The CTLCV acknowledged in its report the exceptionally difficult current economic climate and its presence as an obstacle to some of the meaningful reforms undertaken. As examples of this, it points out that no new funding was authorized for two vital state grant programs to secure open space and watershed properties.

The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters is a statewide, bipartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Connecticut’s environment by making it a priority for elected leaders. CTLCV works with Connecticut’s environmental advocacy groups to identify and highlight important bills that affect our air, water, wildlife, open space and health.
