Senator Looney speaks with one of the many seniors who attended the Senior Fair at the Bella Vista Complex in New Haven
New Haven — State Senate Majority Leader Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven) was joined by more than two hundred area residents at the Bella Vista Complex in New Haven this week for a Senior Fair. Senator Looney listened as fair attendees shared their thoughts on state and national issues while gathering information on a number of social services and medical conditions affecting senior citizens.
“I’m very happy that so many people were able to come out and join us at the fair today,” said Senator Looney shortly after the event. “I think it’s important that those of us who serve in government do everything we can to help make ourselves available to the public, and to help spread awareness and answer questions about available government services. This fair is a great way to do exactly that, and I hope everyone in attendance today took away something valuable from the experience.”
This year’s fair featured a large number of vendors representing many different organizations and government agencies, including the US Social Security Administration, St. Raphael Hospital Geriatric Center, the AARP, United Illuminating/Energy Efficiency Fund, the state Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and the state Commission on Aging, and the Office of U.S. representative Rosa DeLauro.
Representatives from Yale New Haven Hospital were also present at the fair to offer attendees health assistance and outreach information on many different medical conditions.
“So many people have questions about their health, and wonder how to go about finding the care they need. A forum like this is a great place to find some answers, and that’s the best part of this event — it helps seniors to help themselves,” said Senator Looney.
